Everyone wants to have a beautiful wedding. When you include flowers (and you should!), you can make it all that more beautiful. We think flowers set the tone for your wedding, and add that special touch to make it your own. Last year we saw some new trends such as the circular arch, a romantic-chic theme that included the softest pinks and fluffy ivory roses, and lastly, PAMPAS GRASS - who could forget it!? While we still love all these 2019 trends, we wanted to share what the new year might bring.
Here are our top 5 trends we foresee this year in the Mid-Michigan area, rated least to most popular:
We think everyone needs to treat themselves a little more with fresh flowers. No matter who you are or what you like, flowers are always a good idea! That's why we started The Flower Bus - we want to bring flowers closer to you, bring them to places you might already be, and give you the opportunity to pick your own stems and create the perfect bouquet at a price you like.
On 8/18 we had our first pop-up with our Volkswagen bus, a 1960 Kombi walk-through owned by Amanda and her husband, Brad - a VW fanatic through and through. It was at Annie and Oliver's in Midland; a children's boutique with super cute clothes, books, accessories, and toys! Chelsea, the owner, helped market the event and we think the word spread pretty well because the turn out was not disappointing by any means. Our customers loved picking out flower stems themselves and creating a one-of-a-kind bouquet that we wrapped up in brown paper and ribbon for them to take home. The customers that are self-proclaimed "non-DIYers" enjoyed picking out a hand-made bouquet by us that was already wrapped and waiting for somebody to swoop up and take home.
We also had cookies made by Coley's Sweet Treats that were THE CUTEST little blue VWs and yellow sunflowers. And we might add that they were absolutely delicious, too. We gave all our customers a free cookie to enjoy.
There are a couple more pop-ups scheduled - and we are working on adding more before the snow starts falling. See the list below for upcoming dates:
9/7 5-8pm and 9/8 10-4pm at Rebel Magnolia Flea Market in Saginaw
9/29 2-4pm at Live Oak Coffee House in Midland
10/20 11-2pm at Elodie's Boutique in Midland
And be sure to keep up-to-date with more dates that are added by following our Instagram and Facebook pages, because we want to see you there! Fresh flowers for everyone, our new motto :)
Last month we had our first workshop of the year. We had 15 ladies, 2 separate classes, and made spring wreaths. This was the first time we used our home studio to host a workshop! It ended up being a great time and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and learn something new.
At our workshops, we talk about how you can make your own item at home - where you can get the materials, etc. It truly is a learning experience, where you can bring a friend or come solo and just enjoy yourself and bring something home that’s pretty :)
We’ve hosted many workshops in the past, from terrariums, holiday themed wreaths, and floral arrangements. We definitely plan on doing more, now that we have a comfortable studio for our customers! Let us know what you’d like to make, and we will add it to our list! We are thinking floral crowns, Mom and me DIYs, and something geared more toward weddings, since that is our ultimate specialty!
Email us to inquire about hosting a private workshop for you and your friends - perfect for girls day or a bachelorette party. We just need a minimum of 8 people to have a class and you can come to our studio or we can come to you!
Email now: email@example.com
Stay tuned for future workshops!
On Saturday, we had the honor of taking part in the wedding of Sara and Matt. They are the cutest, sweetest people. Sara was one of those brides who knew what she wanted but also was very easy-going about it. She was so helpful in our planning process and made our jobs super easy! Her colors were merlot, ivory, navy, and gold. Her look was "rustic elegance" and she nailed it.
Wow! We just realized that we haven't made a blog post in well over a year! We are pretty embarrassed about this, so we are going to make it a point to update our blog more often. Its a fresh new year and we want to keep growing as a business and show you all what we've been up to!
So, not to make up excuses, but we've been pretty busy lately. (By the way, "we" means Amanda and Jessica, the co-owners of Two of a Kind) Last year was huge for us in our personal lives - we both had baby boys and have been taking the time to adjust to this new life! Jessica had her baby boy, Franklin, on May 11, 2017 and Amanda had Everett on June 27, 2017. They are best friends already. Parenting is great!
We both had full time jobs on top of running this business, so as you can imagine, we were in quite over our heads and were pretty overwhelmed when we were VERY pregnant and/or running around with newborns. We had booked many weddings before we knew we would be expecting, so silly us didn't even know what we were getting into! We overcame the busy wedding season of 2017 and came out learning so much and being so grateful for our little business, and thankful for all our wonderful clients.
Now, fast forward to 2018. Amanda quit her full time job to stay at home with Everett and to help Jessica and her husband by also watching Franklin full time. Jessica had gotten a promotion and became more busy than ever so Amanda is concentrating on the business while chasing around 2 crawling babies, and we both tackle the weddings and events on the weekends. Can we just say, WE LOVE this life, and again, are so thankful and grateful for how our home-based business has grown.
2018 is going to be our greatest year yet. We are so excited to take part in all of our client's weddings and to continue to expand our skills and come up with new ways to serve our followers. THANKS everyone, and please feel free to reach out at any time!
We had the honor of being at Mindy & Kevin's gorgeous, secluded wedding on the 4 of July. They got married at an 11 square acre piece of land next to a private lake and cabin. Such a beautiful setting! Not only did we have the opportunity to do what we love- flowers- we also helped Mindy with her hair and make-up, and were absolutely thrilled to photograph the wedding!
We were so happy to help them on their special day, and had a great experience! Check out all of the images we took! Mindy was gorgeous and one of THE nicest people we have ever gotten the opportunity to work with.
Congrats to Mr. and Mrs. Janke!
On Saturday, May 7th, Two of a Kind was part of the Gypsy Culture Flea Market. We brought 2 Volkswagen buses to showcase our products. We sold terrariums, planters, fresh floral arrangements, wreaths, glassware, and had a bouquet bar. It was a great turn-out, despite the rainy weather, and we got to meet so many great people! Here are some pictures of our display. We hope to do another Gypsy Culture show in the future, so keep an eye on our Events page. See you at future shows!
This past weekend we took advantage of the BEAUTIFUL weather and created some planters and terrariums outside! We used a variety of vintage items that were dug up from a shed at Jessica's house, as well as containers found at second-hand stores. Also used were a few hand-cut wine bottles that we have made into vases and planters. Each wine bottle is chosen because of the intriguing label on the bottle.... (not so much for the stuff that's inside ;)) Two of a Kind is all about Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle and giving a second life to every object!
Our next event is at the Gypsy Culture Flea Market. It takes place in Bay City, MI on May 7th and we will have TONS of gifts for Mother's Day! Along with succulents, air plants, and our vintage & handmade vases and planters, we will have gorgeous fresh flower arrangements. Our Bouquet Bar was a great success at the pop-up we had at Harless + Hugh Flea, so you will be able to pay by the stem to create your own arrangement!
We'll be set up and selling all of our items out of Amanda's husband's Volkswagen Bus.
We'll see you there!
There are only 5 weeks left until the Gypsy Culture show. That may seem like a long time to you, but to us, that just means we better get busy! There's so much to do - supply orders, thrifting for vases and pots, and planting succulents, aloe, and cacti to ensure they are ready to take home on May 7th. Last night we created some new items. We thought this hanging bird cage air plant was pretty cool.
Is there something special you'd like to see? Just shoot us an email and let us know! We will be happy to make something custom and hold it for you at the show. Did you know we also do free deliveries to anywhere in Midland? We can also deliver to you for a small fee if you live up to 40 miles away from us. To order, all you need to do is email us.
HAPPY APRIL! It's going to be a great, busy, fun month!
This past Saturday, Two of a Kind participated in Rebel Magnolia's Spring Mini Market. For those of you that aren't familiar with Rebel Magnolia, let us enlighten you! It is THE cutest little shop located on Ashman street in Midland. The plaza in which they are located was built in the 30's and has so much charm. They sell antique furniture, clothing, knick knacks, and SO much more. The owners Lauren and Hailey are the sweetest most bubbly ladies you'll ever meet.
Anyway... we had the privilege of selling our product at a small flea market there on 3/26/16 and what a great turn out it was! We met some other vendors (Blu's Boutique - go check them out!) and just had the most fun day. Every customer was lovely, and we were surprised to see our stuff fly off the shelves (should have made more fresh floral arrangements!). This show inspired us to do more like it. You can see our upcoming shows on the events page above.
